CASES of murder and attempted murder have been opened after a 37-yearold woman and 32-year-old man were stabbed in Phumlani Village, an informal settlement in Lotus River.

The incident occurred on Monday evening. According to police, the male victim was fatally wounded and the woman was seriously injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

There are concerns that this latest incident is linked to the killings that took place on Sunday in the informal settlement, where three people, one female and two males, who were allegedly part of the Six Bobs gang, were found dead.

“We can confirm that murder and attempted murder cases were opened, the suspect and motive are unknown at this stage and we cannot confirm whether this incident is related to the murders on September 1,” said police spokesperson Mihlali Majikela.

According to Lotus River community worker Beryl Williams, the two gang members were trying to assist the woman who was attacked in the shack in Phumlani on Sunday and were killed with her by the perpetrators.

“Community members are saying that about five people attacked the woman in the shack, raping and beating her and when the two Six Bobs members heard her screams, they came to help her,” she said.

Majikela said a triple murder case had been opened for investigation into Sunday’s incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or Grassy Park SAPS.
