Inform masses of SA’s dire situation

-

THE radio announcers were stunned to almost silence on Tuesday morning, when they spoke about the senseless murder of UCT student, Uyinene Mrwetyana.

This, during “Women’s Month”, when we in South Africa denounce crimes against women. We can find very few positives in South Africa at this time and, while the politicians squabble among each other on trivial matters, our country is burning.

Based on the news in the media, we are a violent society, where life is cheap, the enforcement of law is almost non-existent and politicians are corrupt.

How do we get a change in mindset in South Africa? The normal media preaches to the already converted.

We need to reach the masses to inform them of the dire situation in our country. We need them to understand that, after 25 years, it’s the inept government’s fault and get them to vent their frustrations towards the real culprits, the ANC government, and not alienate their fellow countrymen.

To reach the destitute, we need to convert the “snakes” in our country. Those people who go into rural areas and coerce people to go to the big cities because there is work to be had, even though we all know that isn’t true.

If we can hone in on these “snakes” and get them to encourage the destitute to all converge onto the government to enforce change, maybe then we will see change.

We need to do something soon or we will be the next Zimbabwe. PETER-JOHN ROMAN | Athlone
