THE CAPE Town Science Centre (CTSC) in Observatory are inviting young and old to visit the centre for free on Saturday for the Africa Code Week Coding Carnival, where visitors can participate in a variety of coding activities.

Africa Code Week celebrates its fifth edition this year. Led by SAP in partnership with Unesco, YouthMobile and over 130 partners across the continent, the digital skills development initiative continues to reach unprecedented scales with over 50000 teachers trained and 4.1 million youth engaged since 2015.

On Saturday, visitors to the centre will not only have the opportunity to attend Scratch coding workshops but also workshops on Bee Bots, OzoBots, Makey Makey, Six Bricks, Binary Bracelet and drone coding.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy augmented reality and virtual reality demonstrations as well as relevant talks, bringing all closer to the technology they have heard about and probably want to know more about.

They will have an opportunity to explore science through the centre’s hands-on exhibits, attend a science show as well as tours to the Camera Obscura – a room-sized walk-in pinhole camera offering views of the surrounding area.

The full programme can be found on www.ctsc.org.za.

All workshop participants will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.

The Cape Town Science Centre is at 370B Main Road, Observatory and will be open from 9am to 4pm on Saturday. |
