In Jessica Motaung, we have a real chief

- M MARIENS | Marina da Gama

MR PRESIDENT and fellow South Africans, the two outstanding highlights for 2019 were winning the rugby World Cup and the Miss Universe title.

But sadly, South Africa also received an accolade for a third, the most arrogant nation on this planet.

We pride ourselves in having the best Constitution in the world but it could just as well have been written on toilet paper since the rule of law is non-existent, as are the laws to protect our women and children.

Do you think foreign investors will entrust their wealth in a country that cannot even protect its women and children? It is only possible by begging and strict conditions.

For a country to grow essentials must be in place – accountability, fidelity, stability, transparency and policy certainty, to name a few.

I hope, Mr President, now that most of the dead wood in Cabinet is gone that 2020 will allow you to remove the remainder of the “contingent liabilities”, or political appointments.

Mr President, the only way to get us out this mess is a coalition government where every party contributes to the upliftment of our nation and sign an oath of accountability to debar a member for wrongdoing such as wasteful, unauthorised spending or corruption.

We owe it to our youth for they have suffered too long under those who have depleted Treasury’s coffers.

You have given Patricia de Lille an opportunity and I believe there are other worthy philanthropists in Parliament who’d do the country well. If not, then it is time for a new strong opposition party with a woman in leadership.

Since Jessica Motaung is doing so well at Kaizer Chiefs, I think it is time for her to switch lanes. There are two aspects that favour her. She don’t have to canvass for members and she can run SA in a similar style as a football club – that is, if you don’t perform you are dropped instead of dropping the rand. Respect one another then blessings will pour into our beautiful country because God will heal our land.
