Hygiene packages help NGOs in need
OVER 120 vulnerable communities are receiving emergency aid and hygiene packages throughout the lockdown as part of a non-profit organisation’s feeding project.
Community Chest, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, has delivered over 200 packages of consumer products. They were donated to the main NGOs in communities which distributed them to vulnerable people.
The packages included sanitary towels, hand wipes, sanitising oil, baby powder, moisturiser, soap, cotton wool, baby wash and aqueous cream.
Some of the NGOs receiving packages include Culemborg Safe Spaces, Douglas Murray Home, FoodForwardSA, Ikamva Labantu, In The Hood Ministries, Learning In Reach, On The Edge, Siyakhula, St Cyprian’s Church, TB HIV Care, Team Rise Ocean View and The Haven Night Shelters.
The Haven Night Shelter spokesperson Ivan Johnson said: “We were at a loss about how to care for our residents during lockdown. With Community Chest and other donors, we can now take care of our residents’ hygiene and food needs. Whatever we receive we share with shelters within and outside The Haven group.”
Community Development Foundation spokesperson Sue-Ann Zerf said there was great need among the people and this donation was most welcome.
“We work with the Ithemba Network of over 20 organisations which reach communities as far as Westlake and Atlantis on the West Coast.”
TB HIV Care senior social worker Mavis Nonkusi said all donations would go directly to children suffering from tuberculosis in the Western Cape not cared for by their parents. “This comes at a critical time,” she said.
