Criticism of City on homeless unfounded

-

THE president declared a state of national disaster, and under its regulations homeless people, aka street people, had to be removed from the streets.

Cape Town City council has done a good job under formidable circumstances.

Maybe Strandfontein is not the ideal location but what are the alternatives, given that we are already on day 20 of the lockdown?

We can discount the sentiments of the bitter ANC, as they will never agree with anything the DA does. In any case, the same thing is happening in Gauteng.

It seems the homeless people would rather be back on the pavements rummaging through dustbins. Really?

The DA City council cannot be held responsible for the one rape incident nor the violence as people attempt to “escape”.

Your columnist Lorenzo Davids is not helpful either, and offers no solutions. I assume he is also a disgruntled ANC member, just out to criticise anything the DA does. Would he like to see the homeless accommodated in five-star hotels?

The frustrated “prisoners” at the Strandfontein camp should address their discontent to the president and not criticise the City council.

Can we all please give the City council a break. MICHAEL VERMEER | Table View
