Public’s input sought on Revenue Bill

- Mwangi Githahu

THE provincial legislature wants the public to make submissions on the Division Of Revenue Amendment (Dora) Bill, according to Budget Committee chairperson Deidré Baartman.

Baartman said: “Written or oral submissions addressed to the Budget Committee must include your full name, email address and/or contact number and can be submitted to Waseemah Achmat, procedural officer, by email to wachmat@wcpp.gov.za or as a voice note on WhatsApp to 082 372 7463.”

“Individuals and organisations interested in making oral submissions to the Budget Committee must indicate it when submitting their comments. Submissions must reach the Budget Committee by no later than 4pm on Wednesday, July 15,” said Baartman.

“I would like to encourage the public to participate in the process. All meetings of the committee can be viewed live by simply clicking on the link under the scheduled event on the website calendar at www.wcpp. gov.za/event-created/month/,” said Baartman.

“The purpose of the Amendment Bill is to amend the Division of Revenue Act, 2020, in accordance with the Money Bills Amendment Procedure and Related Matters Act, 2009.”

In May, the committee met to consider and adopt its final mandate report on the bill and voted to reject it, citing the inequitable distribution of funds.

At the time, Baartman said: “While the Western Cape is receiving additional funds, it is not in line with the needs of the province and shows clear confusion from National Treasury to take into account the unique circumstances per province.” |
