Law officer hurt in petrol bomb attack
VIOLENT protests linked to land invasions continued in Kraaifontein at the weekend when a law enforcement officer was injured after a petrol bomb was hurled at his car.
Land invaders were at it once again and invaded open spaces in the area.
What began as a peaceful march on Saturday ended in a violent clash as law enforcement officers tried to disperse the angry crowd.
Mayco member for Safety and Security JP Smith said that on arrival at the scene at around 2pm, law enforcement were confronted by a crowd of approximately 600 people in Bloekombos.
“A Metro Police officer was treated in hospital after sustaining injuries in a petrol bomb attack on a City vehicle in Kraaifontein.
The officer managed to extinguish the flames, avoiding further injuries to his colleagues.
“The City is offering a reward for any information that can help lead to the arrest and prosecution of the person responsible. The attack is just the latest callous act directed at our staff in recent weeks,” said Smith.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut said a joint operation was conducted between the SAPS, Metro Police, Law Enforcement, Anti Land Invasion Unit and the Sheriff of the Court on the corner of Maroela and Old Paarl Roads in Bloekombos, Kraaifontein, on Saturday afternoon.
“Four suspects from Wallacedene aged between 26 and 40 were arrested for public violence and will appear in court today at Blue Downs,” said Traut.
