E Cape cop killed in pursuit of suspect
POLICE commissioner Khehla Sitole yesterday called for an immediate 72-hour activation plan to arrest a suspect involved in the death of an Eastern Cape officer.
The 44-year-old was shot in Kuyga, Port Elizabeth, on Tuesday.
The Anti-Gang Unit had responded to a house robbery and spotted a vehicle stolen during the break-in.
After a high-speed chase, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled while shooting at police. The officer was shot and killed in the exchange.
A 47-year-old suspect was apprehended with a revolver. The vehicle and other stolen items were recovered.
A search is under way for the second suspect. |
