Now a case of ‘Mourn the Beloved Country’

COVID-19 has been a catastrophe for all mankind and I feel compassion and empathy for all those people throughout the world who have gone through the anguish.

Reading the Argus has also been very interesting during these times as it brings knowledge to readers about how South Africa has succumbed to this calamity.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow as the ANC had 26 years to improve the conditions of our people but did very little, and now because of this disaster is hastening in a flurry and flutter to improve matters.

But it’s a little too late.

They seemed more interested in enriching themselves and now the entire world knows of their failings. One wonders if they feel embarrassed or perhaps a little sheepish?

Corruption has been rife over the years and they seem to get away with it, which is shocking, but to continue with it during this crisis we are suffering is absolutely sickening.

Seems to me that all those years Nelson Mandela spent in prison were all in vain.

Covid-19 has shown the South African government in their true form as all the millions donated by kind people to help the poor and suffering eventually found a way into their pockets progressively.

I believe there are MPs who are honest but they need to hound out the rogues who are swindling our money. Alan Paton’s words in “Cry the Beloved Country” should now be “Mourn the Beloved Country”. KAREN SCHAFER | Melkbos
