THE police have called on residents to come forward with any information that could assist them in their investigation into two murders.

On Wednesday afternoon, two bodies that were buried among bushes alongside Baden Powell Drive in Mitchells Plain were discovered.

Yesterday, Western Cape police appealed to residents of Mitchells Plain and surrounding areas who have information about the murder of the two people to provide it to officers.

Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said: “The police are appealing for information following the discovery of two bodies… acting on a tip-off, the police followed specific information about two bodies between gates one and two of the Wolfgat Nature Reserve. Upon arrival at 2pm detectives discovered the bodies.

“They were bound and in an advanced stage of decomposition.”

Meanwhile, the police questioned seven people in connection with the transportation of abalone, and later arrested two suspects, who were travelling from Paternoster to Vredenburg, and allegedly were in possession of 1 606 units of abalone.

Police spokesperson Mihlali Majikela said: “The Vredenburg detective service and West Coast K9 Unit acted on information about two vehicles loaded with abalone, that were on their way from Paternoster to Vredenburg. The vehicles were stopped and searched but to no avail. Seven occupants were brought in for questioning and it was quickly determined that these vehicles were only used to mislead the police.

However, a third vehicle allegedly being used to transport abalone, travelling along the St Helena Bay gravel road, was discovered, and two male suspects were arrested”.
