Common origin defies racism

- IAN FLINT | Onrusrivier

IT REALLY was only a matter of time before someone added evolutionary theory to the long and growing list of what is racist, and councillor Adams has obliged.

Since the theory supports a common origin for all humankind with only minor genetic differences between races and these differences less than the differences within the races, it is hard to see how it is racist, but why let facts get in the way.

Since the councillor has the creationist’s strange take on Darwin’s theory, his conclusions are bound to be wrong, including his assertion that evolutionists reject Noah’s Ark. Evolutionary biology has nothing to say on Noah or his ark except when the old fellow is used as an argument against it. It is true, however, that many who accept evolution because of the overwhelming evidence are atheists and highly sceptical of what is written in holy books unsupported by same.

Which brings us back to Noah’s Ark. If it has been found, can councillor Adams supply any reliable references to support this and can he also explain to this sceptic where the 4 000m of water that floated the boat to that altitude on the mountain subsequently went and where exactly it came from, bearing in mind that if all the ice in the world melted it would raise sea levels by a miserable 70m? And finally, councillor, the theory of evolution, just like the holy books, has been subjected to an insane level of scrutiny and the theory not only holds up but gets stronger as we learn more.
