ANC BEST CLEAN HOUSE BEFORE NEXT ELECTIONS

-

“A CHOREOGRAPHED attack”, that is how ANC chairperson Gwede Mantashe described a series of letters slating party president Cyril Ramaphosa.

First to put pen to paper, or rather crackle the keys of his keyboard, was disgraced former ANC Youth League deputy president and wannabe Eastern Cape power broker Andile Lungisa.

Lungisa, a staunch supporter of former president Jacob Zuma, demanded that the ANC probe alleged votebuying at the party’s Nasrec elective conference in December 2017.

Before the ANC’s virtual national executive meeting at the weekend, Zuma allegedly penned his letter, slating Ramaphosa’s earlier letter to ANC members.

Ramaphosa wrote that the ANC stood in the dock as accused number one, over allegations of Covid-19 corruption, which elicited the angry response from Zuma.

Asked to respond, Ramaphosa swatted away Zuma’s missive like one does a pesky fly, saying he would not respond to it publicly.

Ramaphosa said he would subject himself to the party’s integrity committee over the CR17 campaign funding controversy.

This came amid a call from staunch Zuma supporter Tony Yengeni, who sits on the ANC’s national working committee, for Ramaphosa to step down.

While Ramaphosa has been waging a campaign to clean up the ANC, some of the party’s most senior leaders have had fingers pointed at them.

While the ANC tries to resolve its internal strife, South Africans feeling the brunt of corruption are demanding that those stealing from the public purse be brought to justice.

The ANC government’s failure to do so could see the party lose more power when voters cast their ballots next year.
