LAST GOODBYE
JOSEPH Wachira comforts Sudan, the last male northern white rhino left on the planet, moments before he died at Ol Pejeta Wildlife Conservancy in northern Kenya on March 19, 2018. Suffering from age-related complications, he died surrounded by the people who had cared for him. Sudan had spent a decade under 24-hour armed surveillance at the conservancy. This photograph is part of an exhibition for the 2020 Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition at the Natural History Museum in London.
