Makhura’s reshuffle irks opposition
GAUTENG premier David Makhura’s decision to appoint his third Social Development MEC in less than a year has come under fire from the main opposition party in the provincial legislature yesterday.
Yesterday, Gauteng DA’s spokesperson on social development, Refiloe Nt’sekhe, slammed Makhura for his decision to move former Social Development MEC Nomathemba Mokgethi to health, to replace sacked former MEC Dr Bandile Masuku. Makhura then appointed former MEC for Economic Development Morakane Mosupyoe as the new Social Development MEC, but this irked the DA.
“This means that this year alone there will have been three MECs who have headed this department which is worrying considering that this department has been without a head for four months since the passing of the late MEC Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe.
“MEC Lesufi was appointed in an acting position to the Department of Social Development, but with all the challenges in his Department of Education, he did not have adequate time nor the passion to serve two departments at the same time,” Nt’sekhe said.
