Rife with graft claims

-

THE HEALTH Sector Anti-Corruption Forum (HSACF), which was implemented to fight fraud and corruption in the sector, received 20 allegations of corruption and maladministration over the past year. The forum was launched last year by President Cyril Ramaphosa and comprises various stakeholders, and is convened by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).

wSIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said on Friday that the HSACF met on Wednesday to discuss the progress that was made in the implementation of initiatives to fight fraud and corruption in the health sector.

“The HSACF meeting comes at a time when the country is not only experiencing a resurgence of Covid19 infections in some provinces, but also continuous challenges around the widespread phenomenon where certain private sector companies and individuals have willingly chosen to exploit a grave medical, social and economic crisis to wrongfully enrich themselves at the expense of vulnerable members of society,” Kganyago added.
