GAUTENG Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has paid tribute to the province’s education officials who died due to Covid-19 in the past year.

Lesufi attributed the performance of the class of 2020 to the considerable sacrifices made by the late officials.

“Unfortunately, we lost 34 educators and I want to dedicate these results to the 34 educators that sacrificed their lives so that our children can get an education and pass. We also lost 18 officials of the department,” he said.

Lesufi commended the 110 184 Gauteng matriculants for achieving a pass rate of 83.8% although this was a 3.5% dip from the province’s performance in 2019.

“We congratulate the learners for their resilience and hard work displayed during this pandemic and wish them well,” he said. |
