Fewer jobs wreak havoc in families

-

IT DOES not come as a surprise to anyone to hear the lack of jobs in South Africa is foremost on our minds (“Jobs, graft worry South Africa,” 23 February 2021).

The lack of employment has touched each and every family, and has created havoc in all of our lives.

For the few that do have jobs, they have enormous pressure to support and assist others, and invariably beyond the nuclear family.

The fact that our government does not seem to tackle the joblessness by revisiting the harsh employment regulations appears to be an absolute nightmare.

Even the trade unions are silent about the restructuring of our hiring regulations.

It is not until you lose your job do you realise how difficult it is to find another.

Invariably our skills don’t suit the new environment, and our businesses are too scared to take a chance on training you in case they get challenged thereafter by an unfair dismissal claim.

If it is going to be business as usual, we are going to shrink our workforce.
