DA wants Mogale City executive probed

THE DA in Gauteng has urged the Gauteng MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Lebogang Maile, to investigate the controversial appointment of the ANC-led Mogale City’s human resources manager, Keobile Edwin Mosweu.

The calls came after Maile revealed that the Mogale City municipal manager was not aware that Mosweu had been fired from the SABC because he was not vetted for his work history.

Maile revealed this in his written replies to questions from the DA’s Cogta spokesperson, Solly Msimanga, in the Gauteng provincial legislature.

“At the time of his recruitment, the municipality was not aware as to why he was fired from the SABC,” Maile said However, he said Mosweu did disclose to the interview panel that he had labour-related issues with his former employer which were sub judice.

Maile also maintained that no action would be taken against Mosweu for failing to reveal his labour dispute with the public broadcaster, which led to his dismissal in February 2019.

This prompted Msimanga to say that Mogale City evidently did not have a verification mechanism to check the credentials of candidates before appointments were made.

“The fact that the panel proceeded with the interviews and recommended Mosweu for the position, despite (him) disclosing labour issues with his former employer, raises serious suspicions.

“We are in possession of a document which indicated that Mosweu was fired from the SABC on February 19, 2019, on four charges, two of which are for gross dishonesty, abuse of power and failure to act in the best interests of the company. This clearly indicates that Mosweu lied to the interview panel,” Msimanga said.
