Reward for information on gang murders

-

THE Department of Community Safety will reward residents up to R5 000 for information leading to the arrest and successful conviction of perpetrators of gang-related murders.

Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz said the information could be given to his department and it would be dealt with in confidence.

The initiative would further support the province’s response to gangsterism, he said yesterday.

Fritz said a workshop was held on Tuesday with his department and the SAPS on the provincial response to the national anti-gang strategy. He said the workshop supported an integrated response and involved key stakeholders, including civil society and the business sector.

Fritz said the approach aimed to deal with gangsterism through effective criminal justice and law enforcement and included a focus on community upliftment, social cohesion, and urban and environmental planning and design.

Residents with information can contact the Department of Community Safety at 021 483 5220 or email Police.Oversight@westerncape.gov.za | African News Agency (ANA)
