POLICE Minister Bheki Cele announced an increase in crime statistics in the second quarter of this year. Cele said that the July unrest had an impact on this. MajorGeneral Norman Sekhukhune of the SAPS said that between July and September, there were more murders than in the previous quarter. He said there were also more rapes and other sexual crimes reported in the second quarter. Police are calling for more resources to clamp down on major crimes in the country. The government slashed the budget of police and security-related departments when Covid-19 broke out. |
