Massive wins for SACS, Rondebosch

- GOOSAIN ABRAHAMS

SOUTH Africa Under-19 player Meekaeel Prince, with an unbeaten century 101, powered SACS to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Bishops at home.

The feisty opening batsman, who has been in prolific form with the bat, scored 101 off only 93 balls in an innings which included 13 fours and three sixes.

He started off cautiously, but once he had his eye in he began to dominate the Bishops attack with his wide array of strokes. He made effective use of the slog-sweep with all his sixes being scored square of the wicket on the leg-side.

He paced his innings nicely, reaching his century just before the target was reached.

Bishops won the toss and elected to bat and again it was left to opener Kashief Joseph (58), scoring his second successive half century, to keep the innings together.

In the middle order, Cole Crawford (26) made a useful contribution, but the top order capitulated to the left-arm seam of Hamish Anderson. He scythed through the Bishops innings to return amazing figures of 7/32.

Fayaad Davids (3/28) wrapped up the tail as Bishops struggled to 140 all out in 45.4 overs.

SACS knocked off the required runs for victory in only 28.1 overs.

In the other derby, Rondebosch scored an overwhelming 164 run win over visitors Wynberg.

The Bosch batsmen posted a formidable 317/6 in 50 overs .

A century by opener Jordan Neill (127), at more than a run a ball, was instrumental in laying the foundation for their total. He capitalised on a dropped chance early in his innings and punished the Wynberg attack to record 17 fours and five sixes.

As his innings progressed, he was able to pick up the lengths of the bowlers and accelerated the scoring tempo. Together with skipper Fayaad Daniels (63), they put on a mammoth 186 runs for the second wicket to take the game away from the opposition.

Juan James - the Wynberg captain - was the pick of the bowlers, doing well to keep the Bosch batsmen in check with his off-spinners, taking 3/39 in his 10 overs. He was well supported by Umayr Davids with 1/42.

Wynberg, meanwhile, lost wickets at regular intervals with Rondebosch paceman Cameron Fraser, (2/23) off five overs, doing the damage up front. Leg-spinner Jamie Rickets (3/16 off six overs) got amongst the middle order and Wynberg were eventually all out for 153 in 35 overs.

Benji Hansen top scored with 31, but for the rest there was very little forthcoming.
