Sanitary donation to assist less privileged
ITSITSA Primary School in Mfuleni has received a welcome donation of sanitary pads for its pupils.
This is extra help for the school, which is creating a safe space for the girls by providing and ensuring a private moment during their menstrual cycle.
Pupils in Grade 6 and 7 benefited from the donation from Elevator Ground in partnership with Masithuthuke Foundation. The aim of the donation is to uplift the less privileged girls with difficult backgrounds, in various schools in the township.
Initially the school had to use its own money to buy products and implement an open-door policy in which pupils could seek help during that time of the month.
Teacher Sizipiwe Mqeke said: “This donation comes as a great help in ensuring that the girls can continue moving around freely without worrying about staining their uniforms.
“We are grateful to you guys for assisting us, as we work in the poor community of Mfuleni.
“As a school we take pride in being a helping hand to our learners, restoring confidence and empowering them as they face different situations while on their periods.”
The pupils were excited about the help, especially just before the end of the year because they can take home for the holidays the donation and what is already at the school.
Olothando Pama, 13, said: “This comes as a great help to us as learners. Before this initiative we used to face challenges that included leakage. Having this sponsor also eases the financial problems that some of us face in our homes.”
Elevator Ground, a movement that started in 2017, focuses on empowering girls and boys, with a focus on leadership and sexual reproductive health.
