Snoek and all that jazz at tented vlei gig

SPRING has supposedly sprung and one of the first outdoors concerts of the season will be the Jazz on the Vlei @ the Jolly Carp sunset festival gig. The event takes place this Saturday from 6pm until midnight at the Jolly Carp at 38 Sasmeer Road, Retreat.

Expect the smooth sounds of jazz doyenne Zelda Benjamin, as well as saxophonis­t Sam Pono, the Allou April Band with Carla Diamonde, Oscar Armoed, Allan Denny with Voyager, the Maya Spector Band and vocalist Vernon Castle.

There will a surprise closing act.

Patrons can look forward to chilling in Bedouin tented areas with soft seating, and sampling a selection of local slow-cooked flavours, such as braaied snoek.

The event has been created by Micro Enterprise Network for the Growth of Sustainabi­lity, and aims to highlight the Jolly Carp Saturday Organic Market, which is committed to bringing affordable organic produce to communitie­s to encourage a healthier lifestyle.

Jazz on the Vlei also supports the protection of our green spaces by campaignin­g to save Princess Vlei; the goal is to preserve the area as a heritage site.

Tickets are R80. Book

at Webtickets or the venue’s market on Saturdays. A special shuttle service will be available for those coming from the southern suburbs at R200, which includes your entry ticket.
