Savour local warmth

- THE ARNISTON HOTEL & SPA SPOKESPERSON

THE location is wonderful. The hotel sits next to the sea and adjacent to the whitewashed cottages of a fishing village. From the sea facing rooms views of Indian Ocean breakers rolling in is so relaxing and offers something all year round. You can also enjoy watching the whales from the balcony.

The hotel is immaculately kept and every room is tastefully decorated, perfectly clean and very comfortable. It is not unusual to find a small card detailing the weather forecast and tide times for the following day (this is useful information if you wish to enter the nearby cave, which can only be accessed at low tide) on your pillow when returning to your room after dinner.

Service throughout the hotel is impeccable. Whether dealing with reception, room service, housekeeping or the staff in the restaurant, we have never had cause to fault the staff.

The spa facilities on the top floor are spotless and what you would expect of the Gingko chain? Although booking is recommended you it is not unusual to decide the day before and have no difficulty finding the time of your choosing.

The restaurant provides great food made from local produce which is agreeable to your budget. The wine list offers some exceptional local wines, served beautifully chilled. Breakfast also offers an array of options. Our fantastic seafood platter, is on special during August….see our advertisement on this page.

Although much of the charm of the hotel lies in the fact that there is little to do locally except amble the beach or the miles of nearby sand dunes, there is plenty on offer nearby. De Hoop and De Mond nature reserves are within a relatively short drive. De Hoop is superb for whale watching in winter and De Mond offers good calm swimming in its river mouth during the summer. Struuisbaai harbour (with its adjacent beach) is a fascinating place to watch the catch come in and the southernmost tip of Africa is only another few kilometres down the road. Should you do any of these day trips we can recommend the picnic provided by the hotel. A full hamper containing crockery, cutlery, napkins and food is available.

One of the exciting attractions at the end of August will be the biggest ever undercover fynbos expo “Cape Floral Kingdom Expo”, which will be held at the Mega Park, Bredasdorp from August 29 to September 1.
