Bank on Berlinetta

- RICHARD MCMILLAN

THERE is money to be made at Clairwood tomorrow where the tricky eight-race card has the potential to produce some healthy dividends and the Place Accumulator could be the way to go.

The cream of the turf have done their bit in Champions Season and provided plenty of excitement but ter racing in KwaZulu-Natal with the racing focus now shifting north to Gauteng and then down south at the end of the year for the Sizzling Summer Season in the Cape. But as I have said many times before, while not all horses can be champions the lesser lights still have the will to race and they go out and do their best and often provide more exciting racing than the

Tomorrow the Place Accumulator starts in the second race and while there are some nicely bred first-timers in the field, the Miesque’s Approval colt Breeders Cup from the Garth Puller stable has finished second in his two races and could make the first three again with Roy Royal Roy another potential place-getter.

The Doug Campbell yard is in top run a good second last time out, could again make the frame with blinkers on again. Trix Of The Trade and Wendy Mae are others that could place.

Semra

In the fourth race the two threeyear-old fillies, Semra from the Mike de Kock yard the Gavin van Zyl-trained Resolution look to have Madly, Ramp Diva and Storm Coast could also make it into the money.

Young Adam Marcus has fitted blinkers to Grafton in the fifth race giving him a good chance of winning and both Craftsman and Mojo G have shown the potential to feature boldly in this company.

The sixth race looks an open affair and it could be wise to play things a little wider here. The seven-year-old Trendline from the Des Egdes stable still seems to enjoy his race and ran a good second in his penultimate race while Live Controversy from the Colin Scott stable could go close if reproducing his penultimate effort.

Kono from the Glen Kotzen yard won a maiden well last time and should run well again while Maluti and Son Of Orimandes at the top of the handicap have the ability if they put it together.

Berlinetta

In the seventh the De Kock stable runs the Jet Master filly Berlinetta and based on her first effort she has a winning chance. Her last race was in a Grade 1 where she showed pace before fading out but in this company she must have a good chance.

Keigai, Advance Warning and Indigo Child are among the others with chances and Sebueng could make her presence felt in not needing the run after a four-month break.

Island Fiesta from the Wendy Whitehead stable is capable of leading the pack home in the final race but there are few that have win or place chances. Lizard’s Passion from the Yogus Govender stable is one of them having won a good race last time out and the Dennis Drier-trained Owls Do Cry looks a lively candidate being 4,5kg better off with the Govender runner for a 3,3 lengths beating at their last meeting.

Risky Rosco from the Garth Puller yard was a runner in the Golden Horseshoe on Vodacom Durban July but suffered a mouth injury and failed to feature.

He had won his first race so does have ability and has to be respected along with another three-year-old, Sacred Jewel from the Mike Miller yard.
