Tweaked turbodiesel a big plus for Juke
Despite its startling looks, South Africans have taken to Nissan’s Juke so the company has now added a seventh variation to the range
HE Juke baby Crossover is a success story for Nissan, selling 8 500 units in South Africa since its launch at the end of 2011.
To make the proposition more tempting the Japanese carmaker has now introduced the 1.5 dCi Acenta+ to the range – which follows on the trail of the recentlylaunched CVT automatic and AllWheel Drive (AWD) models – expanding the Juke line- up to seven derivatives.
The new turbodiesel powertrain makes 81kW and 260Nm, will burn in the region of 4.2l/100km, and carries an emissions rating of 109g/km.
The Euro 5-compliant dCi requires low-sulphur diesel (50ppm) to run – and is said to be more silent thanks to a reduction in combustion noises, and more efficient due to improved start-stop technology.
Under-the-skin engine tweaks
Tinclude revised injectors (which reduce the amount of unburnt fuel after combustion), a modern turbocharger (which makes use of a more direct air-intake flow path), and a better exhaust gas recycling (EGR) system.
The latest Juke gets a 6-speed manual transmission, which Nissan says has also been refined in terms of better gearing ratios for a more responsive result.
The first and second-gear ratios have been shortened to allow for a sharper response at low speeds, while the rest of the gear ratios have been lengthened.
“The addition of the new diesel adds a whole new dimension to the Juke range, where absolute frugality meets unbridled driveability in a completely unique package,” said Nancy Reddy, Juke Product Manager at Nissan South Africa.
The new Nissan Juke 1.5 dCi Acenta+ is priced at R263 800 and includes a three-year/100 000km warranty and three-year/90 000km service plan.
