CAREER PATH OF HLAUDI MOTSOENENG

September, 2006: SABC charges Hlaudi Motsoeneng, then Lesedi FM’s executive producer and head of news and current affairs, with racism, dishonesty and promoting women without due process.

January, 2007: Motsoeneng is dismissed.

April, 2008: Then-SABC chief executive Dali Mpofu reinstates Motsoeneng – a move seen as giving in to pressure from the pro-Zuma faction.

January, 2012: Former Miranda Minerals chairwoman Lulama Mokhobo appointed SABC group chief executive. She places an internal advert for the post of COO. Motsoeneng gets the job.

April, 2012: Mokhobo places Phil Molefe, SABC head of news, on special leave.

February, 2013: SABC board dismisses Motsoeneng and redeploys him to his previous position as group executive for provinces and stakeholde­r relations. Head of radio news and current affairs Mike Siluma replaces Motsoeneng as acting chief operating officer, only for board chairman Ben Ngubane to reinstate Motsoeneng. The board rejects this.

March 2013: Parliament dissolves the entire SABC board. President Jacob Zuma appoints a new board.

April 2013: MPs object to the “unexpected” presence of Motsoeneng during the SABC interim board’s first appearance in Parliament.

February 17: Public Protector Thuli Madonsela releases a damning report on Motsoeneng.
