ONE budding young South African artist will have the opportunity to have their Google Doodle design displayed for an entire day on Google South Africa’s page.

Registration opened yesterday for South Africa’s first Doodle 4 Google competition. With the theme “South Africa of my dreams”, school pupils between the ages of six and 17 are invited to create a South Africa of their wildest imaginations.

“Since childhood we express our hopes and dreams with doodles, so as we celebrate 20 Years of Freedom in South Africa, we thought it would be wonderful to invite children to doodle what their dreams for South Africa should look like,” said the marketing manager for Google South Africa, Elizma Nolte.

A panel of guest judges, including celebrities and others “passionate about children’s art and education”, will select finalists from four age groups before the voting is in the hands of the public.

Prizes include tablets, Google Play vouchers or R100 000 worth of technology for the national winner’s school. One of the official Google doodlers will select the national winner, whose work will be displayed on Google South Africa after the winner is announced on November 29.

Nolte explained that the Doodle 4 Google competition had been run all over the world. The closing date for entries is October 22.

Entry forms can be downloaded at www.google.co.za/doodle 4google.
