- Staff Writer

A POLICE constable is recovering in hospital after being wounded in a shooting in Khayelitsha.

Police spokesman Andrè Traut said about 5am the offduty policeman, 26, and his two brothers had been parked in Lansdowne Road, Khayelitsha, when gunmen fired from a white car.

“The constable was wounded in his arm and leg.

“Suspects in a white Corsa fired at them.

“The two brothers escaped unharmed.”

Traut added that no one had been arrested.

Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.

EMS spokesman Robert Daniels said the constable was taken to Netcare Kuils River Hospital where he was treated for multiple wounds to his arm and leg.

Earlier this month a 34year-old off-duty metro police officer narrowly escaped death when he was shot three times in the leg.

The shooting occurred during an attempted robbery, also in Khayelitsha.

The officer came under fire from three men who tried to take his firearm after he had stopped at a shop in Mew Way Road.

He sought refuge in the store.

He was taken to Tygerberg hospital and later discharged.
