ANNI Dewani’s family say the four years since the newlywed was found murdered in Khayelitsha have been “torture”.

Their visit to Cape Town from Sweden to attend the trial of Anni’s husband, Shrien, is a quest to learn the truth about what happened the night the young chartered accountant was shot dead.

Shrien Dewani is to step into the dock of the Western Cape High Court today to plead to murder and other charges after a years-long battle to avoid extradition from Britain that took place amid fears about his mental state.

He stands accused of planning the murder of his bride Anni Dewani in 2010.

Anni’s father, Vinod Hin- docha, and his brother, Ashok, struggled to keep their tears in check as they spoke to the media at the Cape Talk studios last night. They have asked that the media not approach the family for comment while the trial is under way.

“Please understand we are unable to make any further comments until after the trial. I request you do not approach me during this ongoing trial. My brother, Ashok, will answer all the questions,” Vinod Hindocha said.

He said he and his family were here to get the full story behind his daughter’s killing.

“I am back in Cape Town today where my daughter was shot dead four years ago. My wife, daughter and my son and niece and my brother will be at the trial tomorrow.

“We miss Anni a lot,” Vinod Hindocha said.

“All I ask for is the full story and justice. I am confident South Africa will conduct a fair, open and full trial of Shrien Dewani.”

Ashok Hindocha said the family had taken to describing Anni as “the daughter of the world” because of the widespread support they received.

Vinod said: “I am grateful to many, many thousands of people around the world, particularly from South Africa and the UK, who have been supporting us all the time. Now it is up to the South African legal system to obtain the full story of how my little daughter died.”

Ashok said his family and Shrien’s had not had contact with each other since she died.
