Zille must apologise

- Cobus Grobler ANC Western Cape

THEANC in the Western Cape says Premier Helen Zille must publicly apologise for feeding the racist agenda of some in the province.

This follows the unconstitutional, illegal and illiberal revival of a “dompas” scandal, where people filled with hate and fear in more affluent areas exclude poor people who only want to work and earn an honest living, but who are deemed to be criminals ready to break in or steal.

The prejudiced, unfair and discriminatory green cards of Worcester are used as permits to only allow in certain people of colour.

ANC Western Cape leader Marius Fransman says: “This is the result of a premier in denial, who calls isiXhosaspeaking schoolchildren refugees. It is the result of a DA-run provincial government that, for political reasons, abuses race and perpetuates institutional racism that causes this kind of behaviour. It is because she allows privileged people to believe they live in a separate development area or a white enclave.

“The ANC also welcomes the investigations by the South African Human Rights Commission as well as the police in order to get to the bottom of the matter. The ANC will not leave a stone unturned to expose this racism for what it is – also in gated communities and those areas where neighbourhood watch members assault or chase people out because they are deemed to be criminals, like in the southern suburbs, where perceived prostitutes are abused, even though they are merely domestic workers on their way to their jobs.

“Zille must apologise for keeping people believing in this fallacy that the Western Cape is better than other places, or that the people here are superior to others, and start to take steps against perpetrators.”
