Killarney’s triple header set to thrill

- LEE MCGEORGE

ANOTHER triple header on Killarney’s international motorsport complex this weekend is going to feature straight-line drag racing, a short-circuit meeting on the Killarney Kilometer and the second round of the regional karting championship.

The karting on the Killarney kart circuit is going to include all the Cape mega-stars who dominated the recent home national meeting. Jonathan Aberdein, son of former works Audi Quattro driver Chris, is likely to be one of the stellar performers in this one. Jonathan took a first and a second in the DD2 and 125cc Max Challenge at the national and will be looking for similar this weekend.

Luke Herring and Kohen Bam are expected to slug it out in the exciting new IAME X30 gearbox class, where punchers like Stephen Wells, Robert Briggs and Jacques de Bruyn also have the ability to land a haymaker.

The recently launched primary school Vortex Mini Rok 60 shootout sees national champion JP Hamman up against Charl Visser and Aidan Strydom. Finally, the under-eight Cadet class where the drivers’ helmets often tend to fit them like beach umbrellas, is going to be between Kyle Visser, Jason Macbeath, Joaquin de Oliviera, Valentino Hoffmann and Mischa Williams.

While established Makita Formula Supercar front runner Dayne Angel looks like the driver to beat in the Cape Clubman category, guys like Dylan Mitchell and rookie Harry Georgiou are relishing the opportunity to do just that on the short circuit. Moving down the age cycle, multiple primary school Maxterino 60 winner Aidan Strydom will almost certainly be challenged by Charl Visser, Joseph Oelz, Tate Bishop, Storm Lanfear and Troy Dolinschek.

Adult admission to this full day’s entertainment is R60. Scholars under 16 will need R20, but there is no charge for kiddies under 12.
