CAPE TIMES senior photographer Brenton Geach has been named a finalist in the prestigious Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards.

The awards are hosted by Standard Bank and the Print & Digital MediaSA. The award ceremony takes place in Johannesburg on June 24.

Geach was named a finalist for his two entries, titled “Unquestionable Bond” and “The Sky’s the Limit”.

Geach’s “Unquestionable Bond” is a photograph of a highly tattooed gangster with his back to the camera and cuddling his baby.

“The Sky’s the Limit” was taken at a kite boarding event in Blouberg earlier this year.

Cape Times Deputy Editor Aziz Hartley said: “This does not come as a complete surprise. Brenton is a hardworking journalist and a very talented lensman.

“The pictures he produces are evidence of his breathtaking photographic skills. It is immensely pleasing to see Brenton’s work being recognised in this way.”

Geach has been a photographer for more than 30 years and has won a number of awards.
