Wouldn’t it be just eerie if Jomo’s boys beat Swallows 2-0?

JOHANNESBURG: The superstitious soccer fans will be rushing to pick a Jomo Cosmos win over Moroka Swallows on their Super Six betting slips this weekend.

And with good reason too, for so far the PSL Promotional Play-Offs results have favoured the home team with both Black Leopards and Swallows having been victorious.

Ezenkosi are hosting for the first time on Sunday as they welcome the Birds to the Vaal University of Technology Stadium and will look at the results and expect to bag maximum points.

How eerie it will be were Jomo Sono’s men to beat Swallows 2-0?

That was the result of the two matches played so far, Leopards trumping Cosmos and Swallows bringing the Limpopo outfit down to earth by that scoreline.

The playoffs were always going to be an intriguing affair, what with so much at stake for the three teams as they strive to earn the last spot in the lucrative elite league.

When they beat Cosmos in the opening match, Leopards were so scintillating many installed them favourites for their midweek trip up to Dobsonville. But they met up with an inspired Swallows side that played out of their skins to notch up a good win.

That victory will see them make the short trip down to the Vaal cock-a-hoop, confident they can get the better of a Cosmos side that looked somewhat out of sorts in Thohoyandou last Sunday.

But Swallows should be warned, they don’t lose easily lose at home do Jomo’s team.

In fact, Ezenkosi have lost only once in their backyard all season.

Craig Rosslee, the Swallows coach, is not overly perturbed by that though. “Obviously we are going up against the unknown. So after this we will go to training tomorrow and we’ve got to do our homework on Cosmos and make sure we pass the exams,” he said during the post-match conference on Wednesday night.

“The fact is that we are up against two teams that have come in (to the play-offs) with momentum (from their good run in the NFD). But once again, that is them. For us, as long as we do what we got to do, we will be okay.”

What Swallows need to do is play as the cohesive unit they were at Dobsonville – the forwards tracking back to help pack the midfield when the opposition had the ball; the defence keeping their shape and releasing the ball quickly to set up attacks and the forwards making timely runs into good spaces behind the opponents’ backline to finish off moves.

Easier said than done though, for while they did this to perfection against Leopards, there were still moments in the match when they were opened up by the visitors’ slick passing game that had as its architect the talented and highly confident Siphelele Ntshangase.

Sono does not really have a player like him, but Cosmos are a potent attacking unit are Cosmos and their finishing abilities were second to none in the season just completed.

Ezenkosi scored a massive 52 goals from their 30 matches and will be confident to put one past a Swallows defence that was pretty porous in their season.

Brice Aka showed how dangerous he can be when he came on late in the match against Leopards and produced Cosmos’ closest chance at goal with a header that rattled the upright.

He expressed an eagerness to make up for that miss when Swallows come to visit and the likes of Larry Cohen will be hard-pressed to ensure they protect Sage Stephens’s goal from the Ivorian striker.
