Days are numbered

WITH the recent announcement of lowered tariffs for e-tolls and the scrapping, the inability to schedule a conclusive elective conference in KZN, the ad hoc leadership in PE, and the endless sagas around Zuma and his misdemeanours, the question to ask is why would young South Africans vote for the ruling party in the next election?

Politically, the ANC has been on a one-way downhill slide in terms of voters (barring KZN rural areas) simply because the party has been unable to project itself as a party with unity, leadership and vision.

If stalwarts such as Cope, the EFF, Vavi, Malema and Numsa were all the result of Zuma’s inability to contain and manage the ANC after his ascension, the question to ask is: will the ANC continue the way it is being run? And no doubt, one will expect more of the same. More Zuma sagas and more expulsions.

In the next local government elections, should e-tolls continue, there can have be no doubt that the ANC will increase its losses in Gauteng.

Aggravating the matter is the appointment of Danny Jordaan as mayor of PE. Given his profile, one might ask what authority he will have to stamp out corruption and incompetence, and unless he hits the road running, it’s almost certain the ANC has written its obituary for PE. Muhammad Omar
