Stevenson gallery artists confirm art is alive and well
THE work of nine artists is on show at Stevenson Cape Town. The exhibitions run until July 18. The exhibitors are Marvin Luvualu Antonio, Iman Issa, Peterson Kamwathi, Matthew Alexander King, Mame-Diarra Niang, Thierry Oussou, Zakara Raitt, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, and Ephrem Solomon.
Other gallery news is that Meleko Mokgosi and Serge Alain Nitegeka have been selected for A story within a story..., the 8th Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose. It runs from September 12 to November 22.
Zanele Muholi’s solo exhibition, Isibonelo/Evidence, is at the Brooklyn Museum, New York, until November 1. She is included in Storylines: Contemporary Art at the Guggenheim, New York, from June 5 to September 9; The Order of Things at The Walther Collection, Ulm, Germany (until October 10); and the Wellcome Collection’s The Institute of Sexology in London (until September). In Paris the Pompidou Centre’s recent acquisition of her work is on display within their permanent collection exhibition.
Pieter Hugo’s work has been chosen as the inaugural In Focus display within the National Portrait Gallery’s major global photography exhibition, the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2015. The exhibition will open at the National Portrait Gallery in London on November 12. Hugo’s work is currently included on I will go there, take me home at the MAC, Belfast (until July 26), and Beastly/ Tierisch at Winterthur FotoMuseum, Switzerland (until October 11).
Edson Chagas is one of three artists shortlisted for the 11th Novo Banco Photo Award. An exhibition by the artists will open at Museu Coleção Berardo, Lisbon, on June 17, and the winner of the 40 000 euro award will be announced in September.
