Irrational to appoint Maghuve as SABC chairperson – DA

-

The DA wrote to President Jacob Zuma yesterday, asking him to rescind the appointment of the new chairperson of the SABC board until there was legal clarity about the removal of three of its members in recent months.

DA MP Gavin Davis pointed out that new chairperson Obert Maghuve was acting in the position when the board unlawfully removed Hope Zinde, Rachel Kalidass and Ronnie Lubisi.

A parliamentary legal adviser told the portfolio committee on communications that the manner in which the three were axed, flouted the Broadcasting Act as only the president could remove board members. “The DA contends that it was irrational for the president to appoint Professor Maghuve when the portfolio committee is still considering the legal opinion.”
