Six suspects held in crackdown

-

Six suspects were arrested and charged in connection with two cases of attempted murder during an anti-crime operation in the Eastern Cape, police said yesterday.

Police spokeswoman Brigadier Marinda Mills said the arrests were made during Operation Fiela in Flagstaff on Friday, when seven firearms, 198 rounds of ammunition and 94 spent cartridges were also recovered. Operation Fiela is an ongoing national interdepartmental crime-fighting operation.

“These arrests follow after the arrest of a suspect found in possession of a high-calibre firearm during Operation Fiela conducted in Lusikisiki and Flagstaff last month. The firearm has since been positively linked to the shooting incidents that were committed in that area three weeks ago,” Mills said.
