Couple held over 100kg of dagga

A husband and wife (aged 64 and 48) have been arrested after they were caught in possession of dagga weighing more than 100kg in the Free State, police said yesterday.

Police spokespers­on Ikobeng Hlubi said the incident occurred on the N1 on Sunday. “Trompsburg Cluster Highway Patrol unit were busy with the normal stop and search duties. The officers on duty, Constable April Booysen, Warrant Officer Mohlouwa Mahlatsi and Roelf Visser, stopped the vehicle and requested to search it. They discovered five black plastics bag full dagga.”

Hlubi said the confiscate­d dagga had an estimated street value of about R150 000. The two were expected to appear in the Trompsburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
