THEConfederate flag that the killer Dylann Roof embraced supports slavery and servitude of the black American community. It does not stand in opposition to this act – it endorses it.

That the flag is the symbol of white supremacists is evidenced by the words of those who formulated it. It states: “Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea, its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests upon the great truth that the Negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery and subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition.

“This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth. The moral truth is that the Negro is not equal to the white.”

Roof honoured his flag in exactly the same manner, and it demanded human sacrifice. Ironically, the governor of South Carolina, where this horrific killing took place, is a person of colour.
