SOMEONE FOR EVERYONE

Tune in to ‘Strange Love’ on TLC to find out how, despite the circumstances, love always finds a way. And go back ‘Under the Dome’ over on M-Net

THEY say there’s a lid for every pot. You only have to look around Canal Walk or on the TV to see that the strangest-looking people – I’m being kind here – manage to find mates and even breed but yet you still sit at home dateless on a Saturday night. It can be quite depressing.

The new series Strange Love, which begins tonight on TLC at 8.55pm, will either give you hope or make you feel even worse about your single status. It will confirm that “despite any circumstance, love always finds a way” and will “explore romantic, shocking and sometimes provocative love journeys, proving that attractive qualities are not restricted to what society perceives as normal.”

In the premiere episode, we’ll meet the recently single LaRue Drummond who is looking for her potential soul mate, who will have to be willing to accept her 43cm talons. She will try speed dating with the hope of nailing down a new man (groan).

Also featured is Mikel Ruffinelli and her husband Reggie. They’re excited to renew their vows, but Mikel needs to find a dress that will fit her “tiny 99 inch” waist. I’m pretty sure that’s a mistake in the press release because I wouldn’t call that tiny. In Gone With The Wind, Mammy laced Scarlett O’Hara into a corset which reduced her waist to 17 inches (or 43cm, the same as LaRue’s nails).

Other, um, unique individuals we’ll meet during the course of the series are Meg Zucker who only has one finger on each hand and one toe on each foot; a full time Santa looking for his Mrs Claus; a real life Rapunzel with hair 15 metres long; a woman with size 48NN breasts; a bearded lady who debates shaving before celebrating her wedding anniversary, and a black albino.
