HAVE YOUR SAY ...

Hi John: Stormers fan in UK. Totally agree with your comments. Don’t worry will bring over a No 10 in 3 yrs. Can spread ball wide, plays running game and currently kicks 40m with ease! Until then Coleman your man or try Cooper. – Gary J

I totally agree with your column “Stormers stuck in antiquated approach”. I have been a WP supporter for 50+ years and have been very disappointed in their play in the S15. They have lacked a good half back pairing for a long time & yet let a player like Pollard slip through their fingers. The two scrum halves are not up to standard so hopefully Jano Vermaak will make a difference in that department. Maybe with his experience he can give more support to Coleman who has received poor service from Groom & Schroeder.– Bruce Hall

Has anybody thought of playing Cheslin Kolbe at scrumhalf? Fast, agile , strong + dodgy. Re flyhalf sorry to say Catrakilis is better than Coleman. – Bill Mostert

What a joke of an article, stick to chess John. How can you single out Dimitri? The biggest culprit of the night was BONGI MBONAMBI....7 LOST LINE OUTS to Dimitri two touchline kicks. – Alex Marmarellis

As a Sharks fan I have revelled in the Peter Grant /Catrakilis failures. The limitations of these flyhalf generals have been exposed countless times, and all the while Coleman gathers splinters on his bottom. AC and his staff have not done the Stormers proud. Fleck might have been a decent centre, but what impact has he made on backline play...in my non-professional opinion, very little. – Kirk Lawler

John Goliath you are 100% correct. The Stormers were battling to score 4 tries in most of their games whereas the Lions, Bulls ,Cheetahs and even the Sharks could do it easlly. Stormers were exposed within the first 10min of the game. Brumbies did their home work well. – Wasif Adhikarie

Firstly I am a Sharks supporter and secondly, I am white. You are much closer to the reasons than I am but I do not understand why Coetzee began and then persisted with Catrakilis ahead of Coleman. I also do not know why the Stormers play such a one dimensional game. The Lions with no stars have shown it is possible to play with a variety of options. – Mark Willies

A change of personnel/coaches is more likely to give the Stormers a decent cohesive game. Agree with the observation that the game has moved on and our local coaching staff are still in the dark ages. The “up and under” kicking which merely gives the ball to the opposition, would be more interesting if the team were instructed to run and hand it to the nearest opposition player! – Monica Clark

We simply play crash and bash rugby. What is it about the coaching philosophy throughout our top rugby playing schools and into senior rugby, in particular our Super Rugby teams and the national side? Can they not see that NZ and Australia have moved on? We are falling further and further behind, as was evidenced by our Under 20’s who will be the next generation of Springboks. Our mentality is all wrong. How are we going to change? – Colin Blythe-Wood

John, your article whereby you put most of the blame for the loss on Saturday to Catrakillis is absurd. He may not be the running flyhalf like a Stephen Larkham but he has kept Province in the mix all season. Without Cartakillis Stormers would not even have made it to the quarters. Please look at the bigger picture and do not play the man, it’s childish, play the ball. –– Emanuel Cristaudo

Ian, I couldn’t agree with you more, I’m no rugby guru ( don’t even know all the names of the players) but damn I enjoy a good game of SA rugby. When any New Zealand team plays rugby, they play as a team and every man is encouraged to express himself and they play fast exciting rugby. I think there are a lot of closet SA rugby supporters that wish SA would start playing a New Zealand type of rugby. If we compare the stats between the two countries, they speak volumes. – Bruce Macdonald

Ian: You have neatly expressed what I have been feeling for years. When the Stormers camp on the opposition line, I get up to make coffee because I know exactly what is going to happen. Time and again, we get the ball, give it to a burly forward – thump, thump, thump – turnover and the opposition scores a few moments later. Where is the opportunity for flair and imagination, the vision for an off-load or an overlap? Keep up the trenchant criticism. – Dr Len Anstey

Amazing that Gert Smal offered John Mitchell 2 years and then offers John Plumtree 4 years. Mitch would have more than likely have taken up the post if he was offered the 4 year contract. Personally I think he is the right fit for the Stormers at the moment. Young coaches like John Dobson would benefit immensely from working with someone like John Mitchell. – Dave Reynolds

John, can you explain why the Stormers/WP would want to sign Pieter-Steph du toit? It pisses me off to once again see that we are going out side our borders to look for players. Do we not have any locks in this province who can be nurtured into playing for the Stormers/WP? What message are we sending to our younger players at club level? – Danny Bam
