Economist attacked

SOUTHAfric­an economist Dawie Roodt is being treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Pretoria, after being attacked during an attempted robbery at his home last week. Roodt, the chief economist at advisory service Efficient Group, was stabbed in the arm and suffered an injury to the back of his head when four men entered his house east of Pretoria and tied up his wife and daughter, his colleague Francois Stofberg said on Friday. Roodt is due to undergo a second operation to repair his arm. The number of attempted murders in South Africa rose by 4.6 percent in the year toMarch 2014, according to police data. – Bloomberg
