‘Comedy Riot’ promises some loud, surreal laughs
THE 031 Comedy Riot will see a collection of some of Cape Town’s top comedians whip out their best material at The Palms Centre in Sir Lowry Road, Woodstock, on August 5. Doors open at 6.30pm with live music until 7.45pm, followed by the show at 8pm.
On the line-up is KG, a selfstyled comedic “heavyweight”, who has performed with and opened for some of South Africa’s top comedians.
He will be joined on stage by talkative Brendan Murray, whose jokes have more to do with the real world around him than with the imaginary one where “midgets ride flamingos to war” in his head.
From politics and police, to the fate of deaf T-Rexes, Murray covers it all in surreal style.
Paul Snodgrass has been a comic for over a decade, working in the UK and the US, as well as on Comedy Central. He’s short, has a ginger beard and is a little loud, but loveable.
Devin Gray is one of the youngest working comedians in the country.
From jokes covering topics as simple as a family of balloons, to hard-hitting political satire, Gray’s comedy is extremely diverse.
Arno Q Els, is a self-confessed “multi-talented functional drunk” who has toured the country doing comedy and music on big stages, including The Soweto Theatre, The Heritage Theatre, The Catalina Theatre and at Splashy Fen in 2014, where he performed 11 shows over three days, and in 2015 hosted Splashy’s main stage.
The organisers have partnered with Uber for the event to help get guests to and from the show safely.
