Community, leaders pay last respects to Aranes
IN A testament to the way he lived his life, religious leaders, unionists, politicians from different parties, journalists, friends and family packed the Bonteheuwel Civic Centre to pay respects to Joseph Aranes.
Aranes, 51, a former assistant editor at the Cape Argus, died last week Thursday at his home in Lansdowne after a heart attack.
A number of
anti-apart- heid stalwarts and ANC Western Cape provincial secretary Faiez Jacobs and chairman Marius Fransman were in attendance, as was Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille and Cosatu provincial secretary Tony Ehrenreich.
Aranes’ funeral will take place at St Matthews Catholic Church in Jakkalsvlei Avenue, Bonteheuwel, at 11am tomorrow. A private cremation will be held later. lynette.johns@inl.co.za
