Robber killed in police shoot-out
An armed robber was killed yesterday in a shoot-out with police in the northern KwaZulu-Natal town of Mkuze, officers said.
Police spokesperson Zwelisha Gumbi said staff at BFS Loans had alerted police to a robbery in progress shortly before noon.
Police officers who rushed to the scene returned fire after they were shot at by two men upon their arrival. “One of the men, 25, was wounded and later died,” Gumbi said.
The second robber then barricaded himself inside the office, with several people he had taken hostage. “The man later handed himself over to police.”
