Minister stands by Hawks head despite condemnation
Police Minister Nathi Nhleko has backed new Hawks chief Berning Mthandazo Ntlemeza, despite the court earlier having described him as dishonest and lacking integrity.
Nhleko announced Ntlemeza’s appointment yesterday after months in the position as acting head.
The position has been vacant since the departure of ex-Hawks chief Anwa Dramat over the illegal rendition of Zimbabweans.
Nhleko said comments made by a judge on Ntlemeza were simply comments. He said that judgment was taken on review, and Ntlemeza had remained in his previous acting position.
