MULTICHOICE has announced the launch of two new audio channels onto the DStv audio package from Thursday – GROOTfm 90.5 and LM Radio.

GROOTfm 90.5 is an Afrikaans radio station that rocks in any language. A dream was born in 2013 when GROOTfm 90.5 was introduced as a community radio station with a commercial basis geared to serve listeners in the greater Pretoria area.

Whilst the station strongly supports Afrikaans music, DStv customers can also look forward to good international, contemporary music that’ll get their feet tapping. Their radio presenters are among the best in the country, and ensure that programmes are interesting, relevant, appropriate and inspiring.

In August GROOTfm 90.5 challenged traditional boundaries in broadcast media by launching Die GROOTontbyt, a programme which combines radio and television in a fresh approach to morning breakfast programming.

Die GROOTontbyt is hosted by well-known personalities Johrné van Huyssteen and Nadia Beukes, supported by Hendri Myburgh, Elsa Esterhuizen and Rouchelle Liedemann. DStv customers can tune in to kykNET (DStv channel 144) week- days from 6am to 9am to get their daily dose of news, entertainment, weather, traffic and much more.

GROOTfm’s fast-growing audience have made it possible for the station to partner with MultiChoice to ensure that even more listeners are able to access the station’s quality programming.

As they say in Afrikaans “gaan GROOT of gaan huis toe”.

Hardus Zevenster, CEO of GROOTfm 90.5, is thrilled that the station’s sounds will be added to the DStv audio package on DStv channel 920.

Meanwhile, the legendary LM Radio, the music radio station for ‘happy listening’ will be added on DStv channel 921. The radio station will be well remembered by people aged 45 years and older as the music station that broadcast popular music from Mozambique and entertained generations both young and old.

LM Radio presenters are household names with their roots planted deeply in the South African radio industry. Nick Megens, Tinky Pringle, Peter de Nobrega, Peter Wise, Vic Hall, Gavin Buckle and Mark Williams, to name a few, who will bring the best mix of hit tunes through the decades together with informed and relevant lifestyle and music-related conversation for the more mature listener.

The original LM Radio closed in 1975 shortly after Mozambican independence but was revived in 2009 by current CEO, Chris Turner.

Since its establishment in 2009, LM Radio, broadcasts in south- ern Mozambique and in Lesotho, on free to air satellite platforms and the internet.

LM Radio has attracted a fast growing audience of young and old alike with its mix of nostalgic adult contemporary hit music and personal style of presentation.

LM Radio broadcasts in English and has received prestigious awards in Mozambique, including Top Radio Station of the year for music and entertainment for the three successive years; 2013, 2014 and 2015. LM Radio was awarded the SuperBrands seal of excellence in media in 2015.

The music played on LM Radio ranges from the 1960s to pres- ent day, in the style of pop, rock, R&B, country and easy listening music with the ‘feel and sound’ from the mid-1960s through the 1970s to the mid-1980s.

The presentation style is personal and intimate.

“We at LM Radio are delighted to become part of the DStv audio package as this will widen the choice of music radio entertainment available to DStv customers. Music entertainment for the more mature listener is in short supply in Southern Africa and LM Radio meets that need,” commented Chris Turner founder and CEO of LM Radio.
