No lifesavers on duty

- Moutscribe, Kinvara, County Galway Ireland

I AM writing to raise my concern about the lifesaving at Clifton (4th Beach).

I am here on holiday from Ireland and thoroughly enjoying your beautiful country. I am writing this letter to hopefully avoid a tragedy on your beaches this season. It was my understanding that on December 1 there would be lifesavers in place on Blue Flag beaches such as Clifton.

I arrived at Clifton 4th Beach at 10.30am on Tuesday, but to my dismay no lifeguard was on duty. I stayed until 11am and then left without entering the water as I felt it was unsafe to do so. I called the city council (safety and security) but could not get an answer.

I hope that this situation will be rectified as soon as possible. Vera Quinlan receiving a telephone call from Quinton:

“The ANC in the Western Cape acknowledges that there was an incident at our offices on Monday, November 30, 2015, which involved the Provincial Secretary and a staff researcher.

“ANC officials met in the morning of Wednesday, December 2, 2015 to discuss the incident and without discussing its merits, decided to refer the matter to its internal disciplinary process with the aim of speedily resolving the matter.

“The severity of the matter and its sensitive nature, however, has warranted certain decisions to be taken by the officials.

”The Provincial Secretary, Faiez Jacobs, has been put on precautionary leave pending the outcome of the internal disciplinary process.

”The current Provincial Deputy Secretary, Thandi Manikivana, will be acting Provincial Secretary until the matter has been fully resolved.

”The Staff Researcher remains on leave for the next two weeks.

“The work of the provincial office will continue to run as smoothly as it has been.”
